Origins and development

From Vietnam to the World

Foundation in 1938

Vovinam emerged in Vietnam in 1938. It drew from traditional Vietnamese fighting arts and combined them with modern scientific understanding of movement and the body.

Growth across generations

Over the decades the art developed through generations of teachers who carried its curriculum forward. Its methods spread beyond Vietnam, reaching practitioners around the world.

Carrying the Curriculum Forward

The Tukwila school preserves the original Vovinam curriculum through faithful transmission. Technical standards, ethical teaching, and the structure of belt levels are kept as they were taught, so students learn the art as it was handed down.
